Blending traditional architecture with a modern, contemporary design has been the focus of this project, which is situated in Waging am See. The explicit relationship between volumes, lines, and slopes emerges from linking modern style elements to the peculiar Bavarian charm. For us, modern design does not – by no means – exclude or contradict traditional architecture. On the contrary, we believe that the interaction of traditional and modern styles offers new opportunities to create unique and timeless buildings with a special character.
Three multi-family apartments plus two vacation apartments with an accumulated living space of 480 sqm have been realized. The apartments feature separate entrances as well as private balconies, terraces, and gardens. Equally to the traditional country house style, a solid construction serves as foundation for a wooden construction made of local spruce. Referring to the cultural influences of its vicinities, the building’s windows are arranged in a manner that is typical for Bavarian farmhouses. As a consequence, the building embeds seamlessly into the overall appearance of the village. During planning, special consideration was given to the realization of a resource-saving construction. This was achieved through a conscious design process, the development of a specific energy concept – including photovoltaics and a sophisticated ventilation system – as well as the use of regional materials and close collaboration with local businesses.
